In Evelyn’s own words;
“I began my Interior Design career in Vancouver apprenticing with an architectural and engineering firm for three years. While working for them I moonlighted doing floor plans for homes in East Vancouver to convert them from single-family homes into multi family residences of two or three units. After 3 years I left the architectural/engineering firm to work for myself. I have my Associate of Interior Design from Douglas College; I spent an additional 3 years night school at BCIT studying building technology and 3 years night school at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. The combination of training in building construction, interior design and fine art gives me an all round approach to my design aesthetic and design capabilities from technical to creative and it is that all round approach that makes my design capabilities stand out.
“I met Bruce (a journeyman joiner) while we where still in Vancouver and after 6 years, we got married, and soon after launched Design House BC, Evelyn M Fine Art and an international online writing platform on design called LocaLHomeSpot – all 3 with their own website. Now that Bruce and I are firmly settled in Campbell River we find that running 3 different websites takes up a lot of time so we have simplified things by consolidating them and re-branding our business identity as Evelyn M Interiors.
“With our combined training and skill sets we have a wide ranging familiarity with all aspects of interior home design including renovations, space planning, colour and material selections, painting, drywall mudding, custom cabinetry and so forth.
“We have our own fully functioning woodwork shop which gives us the unique ability to both design and build custom cabinetry and with Bruce’s woodworking skills he is able to bring something unique to every piece he builds.
“With my Interior Design skill I pride myself in being able to create functional spaces that are both beautiful and efficient. As an artist I have the unique ability to “visualize” and create spaces that not only fill my client’s wish list of needs but also to bring forth their individual personality into beautiful and functional spaces whether the project is a home, business, singular room or a one-off custom designed piece for that “awkward” space. I always try to create areas that represent my client’s wants and needs. A happy client means I have done my job.”
