Lighthouse Project - Complete Tear Out and Rebuild of Master Bath

The finished master bath in our Lighthouse project is a combination of warm and cool colours presented through clear finished fir custom cabinets, slate look vinyl tile flooring and uber cool grey and white tiles in the new walk in shower. There is also a soft silvery green on the walls and fun barn lights over the vanity.

When you walk in to the master bath, the 36x48 shower is on the right. IT has a magnetic drain cover positioned at the front end of the basin.

The magnetic drain cover acts as a barrier to any object that might otherwise fall into the shower and go down the drain. Since the cover is magnetic, it can be completely removed for ease of cleaning. When you place it back over the drain it snaps into place without having to align it properly thanks to the magnets hidden in the four corners of both the cover and the basin.

Beside the shower is a small storage niche. The homeowner opted not to have a door in front of it but it has been framed in for one if she changes her mind in the future.

With no door on the niche the homeowner was able to have a towel rack beside the window rather than below it.

Across from the storage niche and shower are where the toilet and vanity are located. Both have custom fir upper cabinets installed that where designed and built in our shop.

The vanity features two shaker doors and 3 bookmatched drawers. The countertop is a striated white laminate with fir edge and the backsplash is mosaic black marble.

We sourced a small 16”x16” sink to free up as much counter space as possible on the tiny area.

Above the custom medicine cabinet, we installed two barn lights with 40w LED Edison bulbs in a graphite finish which reads much softer than black. The upper cabinet above the toilet is taller and lines up with the barn light shades. It is also deeper at 9” verses the medicine cabinet which is 6” deep.

The LED Edison bubs offer a vintage glow.

The sides of the drawers are Birch hard wood while the bottom is easy to clean melamine.

The shelves inside the upper cabinets are fir veneer.

The original bathroom was short on storage space. No upper cabinets and no drawers on the same size vanity.

Due to the oversized tub for two there was also no storage on the shower bathing side of the bathroom.

Once the 6ft tub for two was removed and replaced with a 36”x48” shower, there was plenty of room to frame in the storage niche.
